The changes you need to report

If you live in the Netherlands and there is a change in your situation (for example, you stop your education or you move to another country), you must let us know within 4 weeks. 

If you live outside the Netherlands, you must report changes to us within 6 weeks. 

Avoid a fine by reporting changes on time. 

See what you have to report in different situations

You must report the following changes to us within 4 weeks:

  • You get a new representative
  • Your representative moves house
  • You are legitimised or acknowledged by someone
  • The court has established the identity of your father
  • You get a benefit from a country other than the Netherlands
  • There is a change to your non-Dutch benefit
  • Your nationality changes
  • You go to prison, a detention centre or a closed treatment facility
  • You are ordered to go to prison, a detention centre or a closed treatment facility, but you refuse to go

If you are aged 16 or over, you must also report the following changes:

  • You get married or enter into a registered partnership
  • You no longer take care of another orphan and no longer spend most of your time running the household
  • You are no longer in full-time education or you have stopped combining work and study. Only report this if you are 18 or older or if you already have a school-leaving qualification
  • You already have a school-leaving qualification. You have had a period of illness or incapacity but you are now able to return to full-time education or a combination of work and study

You must report the following changes to us within 6 weeks:

  • You move house
  • You get adopted
  • You get a new representative
  • Your representative moves house
  • You are legitimised or acknowledged by someone
  • The court has established the identity of your father
  • You get a benefit from a country other than the Netherlands
  • There is a change in your non-Dutch benefit
  • Your nationality changes
  • You go to prison, a detention centre or a closed treatment facility
  • You are ordered to go to prison, a detention centre or a closed treatment facility, but you refuse to go

If you are aged 16 or over, you must also report the following changes:

  • You get married or enter into a registered partnership
  • You no longer take care of another orphan and no longer spend most of your time running the household
  • You are no longer in full-time education or no longer combine work and study
  • You have had a period of illness or incapacity but you are now able to return to full-time education or a combination of work and study

The death of an orphan is a tragic event. The orphan benefit will stop on the day after the date of death.

If the orphan who died lived outside the Netherlands, you must report the death to us within 6 weeks. Please also send us a copy of the death certificate.
