A short explanation of the Anw survivor benefit
If your partner or ex-partner died and you have not yet reached your AOW pension age , you may be entitled to an Anw survivor benefit. This is a basic income paid by the Dutch government .

Check whether you qualify for an Anw survivor benefit
First, select your situation to see what the qualifying conditions are.
What are the qualifying conditions?
If your partner died, we assess the situation on the date of your partner’s death.
The qualifying conditions are:
- your partner must have been insured under the National Survivor Benefits Act (Anw ) on the date of their death
- you have not yet reached your AOW pension age
- you look after a child under 18. The child lives with you and is not a member of another household, or
- you are at least 45% incapacitated for work
What are the qualifying conditions?
If your ex-partner died, we assess the situation on the date of your ex-partner’s death.
The qualifying conditions are:
- your ex-partner must have been insured under the National Survivor Benefits Act (Anw ) on the date of their date
- If you have not yet reached your AOW pension age
- your ex-partner was obliged to pay you maintenance for a spouse or partner. It does not matter whether or not you actually received any maintenance payments.
- you look after a child under 18. The child lives with you and is not a member of another household, or
- you are at least 45% incapacitated for work
How much Anw survivor benefit can you get?
The maximum amount you can get is €1,258.36 net, taking into account the tax credit .
If you have any income, the amount of your Anw survivor benefit will depend on that income.
Your income may be deducted from your Anw survivor benefit
Some types of income are deducted in full from your Anw survivor benefit. Other types of income are either partly deducted or not at all.
How to claim an Anw survivor benefit
If you think that you meet the qualifying conditions, you should submit a claim for an Anw survivor benefit.
