If you live in the Netherlands, you will receive a letter from us about claiming your AOW pension about 4 months before you reach your AOW pension age.

Wait until you receive a letter from us before claiming your AOW pension
After you receive our letter, you can claim your AOW pension. It is not possible to submit your claim earlier. The letter will tell you how to submit your claim.
If you have a Message Box (Berichtenbox), you will probably find our letter in your Message Box.
If it is less than 4 months before you reach your AOW pension age and you have not received a letter from us, please contact us.

You live outside the Netherlands
If you live outside the Netherlands, you should apply for your AOW pension 6 months before you reach your AOW pension age. How to apply depends on the country where you live.
You have lived or worked for a period outside the Netherlands
If you lived or worked outside the Netherlands before your AOW pension age, you may also have pension rights in another country.
If you live in the Netherlands, you can claim your AOW pension from us. We will also check whether you have pension rights in another country. If so, we will forward a claim to the pension agency in the other country.
The date you can start receiving your non-Dutch pension may be different from the start date of your AOW pension. If your non-Dutch pension starts before your AOW pension, please contact us.
