Payment of child benefit

Your child benefit for the 2nd quarter of 2025 will be paid on 1 July 2025. If you have any questions, go to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and see if you can find the answer to your question there.

Your child benefit will be paid on the following dates:

  • 2 January 2025 (payment for the 4th quarter of 2024)
  • 1 April 2025 (payment for the 1st quarter of 2025)
  • 1 July 2025 (payment for the 2nd quarter of 2025)
  • 1 October 2025 (payment for the 3rd quarter of 2025)

This depends on your bank. Other people may therefore receive their child benefit earlier than you. We would ask you to wait and check your account later in the day.

See the table on the page ‘Child benefit amounts’.

The date of the first payment depends on when your child was born.

Child benefit is always paid after the end of the quarter concerned. The payment you have just received is your last child benefit payment for your child.

To determine whether you are entitled to a higher amount of child benefit, we assess the situation on the first day of each quarter. The quarters start on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. Child benefit is paid on a quarterly basis.

The first day of the 2nd quarter is 1 April 2025. On that day, your child had not yet turned 6 or 12. This is why you are still receiving the old amount.

On the first day of the 3rd quarter of 2025, your child had already turned 6 or 12. You will therefore get the higher amount starting from the 3rd quarter. Child benefit is always paid after the end of a quarter. You will therefore get the higher amount at the start of October 2025.

If you have an account with a bank outside the Netherlands, it may take longer for you to receive your benefit payments in your account. This will depend on your bank and the country where you live.

Costs for transferring payments to bank accounts outside the Netherlands

We remit your child benefit in euros to Citibank. Citibank then transfers the money to your bank. The transfer costs can be up to €0.48 per payment, depending on the country where you live.

You may have to pay extra costs to your own bank. The amount you have to pay depends on your bank. We have no control over this.
