Post from Dutch government authorities sent digitally to your Message Box
The Message Box is your personal digital letterbox for receiving post from Dutch government authorities. This online letterbox is available to anyone aged 14 or over who has a DigiD. It allows you to receive and store important post digitally such as post regarding your:
- tax returns
- child benefit
- renewing your passport
Logging in to MijnOverheid
The Message Box is part of MijnOverheid. You can log in with your DigiD or another valid EU Login .
If you do not have a DigiD, or you need help with logging in, read our explanation of how to log in.
Go to your Message Box in MijnOverheid
When you are logged into MijnOverheid go to your Message Box.

Your post is secure in the Message Box. Other benefits:
- You can find all your post from Dutch government authorities in the same place
- You can access your post anytime, anywhere
- You receive a message every time you have new post. (To receive these messages, you need to enable your notifications)
Activating your account is easy, even if you live outside the Netherlands. All you need to do is log in to MijnOverheid, fill in your email address and complete the steps. You only need to do this once.
If you need help with activating your account, go to the MijnOverheid website and select English in the top right-hand corner of the page. Under ‘Logging in to MijnOverheid’, you will find instructions for people using MijnOverheid for the first time.
Check whether digital post from the SVB is selected in your Message Box:
- Select ‘Instellingen’
- Under ‘Organisaties Berichtenbox’, check whether the SVB is selected
- If the SVB is not selected, select it and save it (‘opslaan’)
If you have chosen to receive our post digitally, you will no longer receive it on paper, which is better for the environment. You can also still print it out if you need to.
However, there are several letters and forms we still send by post:
- PGB letters and forms
- Confirmations of changes of address
- Letters to a client’s heirs about the end of a pension or benefit
- Letters to clients who have been placed under administration/guardianship
- Letters concerning review or appeal cases in which the client is represented by someone else
- Letters to third parties, such as the client’s representative or creditor
- Reminder letters about claiming an AOW pension
- ‘Investigation into your living situation’ forms
- ‘Income details’ forms
The Message Box app allows you to read your post from Dutch government authorities easily on a mobile phone or tablet, even if you are outside the Netherlands. You can also opt to receive a notification on your phone or tablet when there is something new in your Message Box.
