If you have received a letter from the CAK

The letter you received from the CAK will say that you are ‘not insured’. This is because you do not have Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering) from a Dutch insurance provider.

If you are insured under the Dutch long-term care scheme (Wlz scheme), you are also insured under the Dutch basic health care scheme (Zvw scheme). Everyone who is insured under the Zvw scheme, is obliged to take out a basic insurance package (basisverzekering) with a Dutch health insurance provider.

What you need to do

  1. Take out health insurance

You must take out Dutch basic health insurance within 3 months. If you do not, you will get a fine from the CAK.

  2. If you think you are not insured under the Wlz scheme

If you think that you are not covered by the Wlz scheme and that you should not be obliged to take out Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering), apply to us for an assessment of your Wlz insurance position. We will assess whether or not you are covered by Wlz insurance
