A part AOW pension and an AIO supplement
If you live in the Netherlands but you cannot get a full AOW pension because you were not always insured here and you have almost no income or assets, you may be able to get an income support benefit for people of AOW pension age (AIO supplement) or special (targeted) assistance.
AIO supplement
The AIO supplement is an extra payment for people in the Netherlands who get less than a full AOW pension or no AOW pension at all.
If this is the case for you, and you have almost no income or assets, you may be able to get an AIO supplement.
Special assistance
If you have unexpected extra costs that you cannot get reimbursed in any way, you may be able to get financial help from your municipality (gemeente). We call this ‘special assistance’ (bijzondere bijstand). For more information about this, you can contact your municipality.
