Consultation sessions by the Bureau for Belgian Affairs

If you have any questions, you can make an appointment for one of our consultation sessions. These in-person sessions are held at various locations.

You can ask questions about the following subjects:

  • the rules that are relevant for you (this is called ‘applicable legislation’)
  • your health insurance
  • child benefit 
  • old-age pension
  • survivor benefit 
  • unemployment benefit, sickness benefit and incapacity benefit  
  • Dutch taxes (only at certain consultation sessions)

If you visit a consultation session, bring along any documents that might be relevant.

The consultation sessions in Maastricht, Lanaken, Maaseik and Antwerp also give you the opportunity to ask questions about the Dutch tax system. You will need to make an appointment for this via the Bureau for Belgian Affairs (BBZ).

Alternatively, you can telephone the Cross-Border Employment and Enterprise team (GWO) of the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst) in Heerlen to ask your questions.

After you make an appointment, you will receive an email with an invitation for a video chat. The chat will last for no more than 35 minutes and will take place via Microsoft Teams . You do not need a Microsoft Account to have a video chat. All you need is a device with a camera and an internet connection.

If you call us to make an appointment, we will ask for your consent to keep your personal details temporarily in a secure document.

Confirm or withdraw consent

After you have made an appointment, we will send you an email asking you to confirm or withdraw your consent:

  1. If you confirm your consent, we will delete your personal details at the end of the calendar quarter in which the appointment took place
  2. If you withdraw your consent, we will delete the personal appointment details as quickly as possible

The details we will keep temporarily are:

  • Your email address so that we can send you confirmation of the appointment
  • Your telephone number so that we can contact you to postpone the appointment if necessary, or ask some additional questions
  • Your date of birth and your Dutch BSN (burgerservicenummer) or Belgian identification number (rijksregisternummer ) so that we can provide you with information specific to you. 

Your details will be handled confidentially

If your appointment is for a joint consultation session organised by the SVB and the Belgian Federal Pensions Service (FPD) or the Belgian or Dutch tax authorities, your personal details will be sent to those organisations via secure email.
