You work outside the Netherlands

If you live in the Netherlands but you work in another country, you will probably not be insured under the Long-term Care Scheme (Wlz scheme ).

Important information

To decide whether you are insured under the Wlz scheme, we look at the type of work you do, and the country or countries you work in.

  1. Your work location

If you work for a Dutch company, or you receive profits from a Dutch company, but all your work activities are performed outside the Netherlands, you are generally not insured under the Wlz scheme. To be insured, you have to actually work in the Netherlands.

  2. Your work situation

We also look at your work situation, for example whether you work for an employer or you are self-employed. Or whether your employer has posted you to work in a different country.

If you are doing an internship outside the Netherlands, or if you do volunteer work, work as an au-pair or are doing PhD research, you can find more information on the page ‘You are a student or doing an internship’.

  3. The country you work in

If you work in a country of the European Union (EU ), the European Economic Area (EEA ) or Switzerland, or you work in 2 or more countries, we will take this into account when we decide whether you are insured under the Wlz scheme.
